Aberbechan bridge

Aberbechan bridge

On the B4568, just outside the village of Aberbechan, Montgomeryshire 3.5km north-east of Newtown

This bridge, carrying the B4568 over the Bechan Brook – a tributary of the River Severn – near Newtown (Montgomeryshire) is an impressive, high stone structure of a single semicircular arch and is worthy of its Grade II listing. It has the common Penson feature of prominent keystones and appears to have its original parapets of two courses of large, regular stones with a chamfered capping. Its rebuilding was commissioned by the turnpike trustees after its predecessor was destroyed in 1855.
